Privacy Policy
Cherokee Happenings ("we," "us") publishes a local events calendar, business directory, and a weekly email newsletter at cherokeehappenings.com. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Email address when you subscribe to our newsletter.
- Mobile phone number (optional) if you enter one, and whether you checked the box agreeing to receive text messages.
- Consent records: the date and time you signed up, the page or form you used, the exact wording you agreed to, and basic technical details (IP address and browser type) used as proof of consent and to prevent abuse.
- Event and business submissions you send us through our forms (names, contact details, and descriptions you provide).
- Payment information for paid listings is handled directly by our payment processor (Stripe); we do not store card numbers.
How we use it
- To send the newsletter you asked for (about one email per week, on Fridays).
- To send text messages only if you checked the text-message consent box (about one message per week). Consent to texts is never required to subscribe or to use our site.
- To review and publish event and business listings you submit, and to reply to you.
- To keep records showing that you agreed to hear from us, and to protect our forms from spam.
Text messages (SMS)
- Message frequency: about 1 message per week. Message and data rates may apply.
- To stop texts at any time, reply STOP. For help, reply HELP or email hello@cherokeehappenings.com.
- We will never text you unless you gave consent by checking the text-message box. Subscribing by email alone does not sign you up for texts.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- Full program details: SMS Terms.
What we share
- We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number or your text-message consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.
- We do not sell or rent your email address.
- We use a small number of service providers only to run our service on our behalf: our email and SMS delivery provider (Sender.net), our website host and form processor (Netlify), and our payment processor (Stripe). They may process your information only to provide those services to us.
- We may disclose information if required by law.
Your choices
- Email: click "Unsubscribe" at the bottom of any newsletter, or email us.
- Texts: reply STOP to any message, or email us.
- You may ask us to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you by emailing hello@cherokeehappenings.com.
How long we keep it
We keep your subscription details while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record (your address or number and the date you opted out) so we never message you again by mistake, and consent records as long as needed to show we followed the law.
Children
Our newsletter and text messages are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. Material changes affecting text messages will be communicated before they apply.
